About King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital

The Gender Health Clinic at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital opened in 2021, inside the Thai Red Cross Society's teaching hospital for Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok. It was founded by Assoc. Prof. Krasian Panyakhamlert, Head of Gender Medicine and Menopause in the department of obstetrics and gynaecology, and it brings gender medicine specialists and endocrinologists together in one clinic for trans people.

What makes it special is the depth behind it. It is a learning centre for doctors and medical students and works with Chula's Center of Excellence in Transgender Health on research, so the doctors looking after you are also teaching this care to the next generation. Hormone therapy here is tailored to you: the doctors choose the medicine, by mouth or on the skin, and the dose for each person, and they screen first for anyone for whom hormones would not be safe. It mainly treats adults, with under-18s considered case by case. Alongside Assoc. Prof. Krasian, Dr. Thanapob Bampenkiatkul and Amarin Suwan, M.D., both lecturers in gender medicine, are specialists at the clinic.

It is set up first for people who live in Thailand, so it suits residents and long-stay visitors more than a short trip. The clinic runs every Monday afternoon, from 1pm to 3.30pm, and you book an appointment by phone on 0-2256-5286 or 0-2256-5298; a Thai speaker by your side will help. Bring your current prescription and recent blood results if you're already on hormones, and read about gender clinics before you go. This is information, not medical advice: the doctor who sees you decides what is right for you.
